Fall is a time for reflection. And even though the temperatures in Kansas are still in the 90’s this week, I haven’t delayed in starting to reflect on my last year of struggle. How did I get there? How did I get myself out?
Let me start by saying stress or struggle is not all bad. This is of course how we grow and change. But feelings of being overwhelmed are not healthy. So how did I get there? It started with assuming I could “tough it out” for many months in a situation I was ready to be out of. Then more got piled on my plate and the situation was clear- I had to make a move.
Then I made a plan. I got out of the situation that was causing me overwhelm and I managed to create a much more desirable work situation. I now have total autonomy to my schedule and less hours to allow for more time for my daughter and self-care. I also realized how important my work is to me and that I enjoy my work. It’s important.
THEN started the self-care. After I’d made my way out of the situation I was in, I decided it was finally time to start the healing process. The putting me first process. The care for my body and my mind. Before then, it was put a band-aid on it so I can continue taking care of everyone else first. I gravitated towards some tried and true methods of healing (Therapy! Exercise! Rest!) and some newer modalities (Morning meditation, Accupuncture).
How will I deal with struggle in the future? First I will not discount my own needs, second I will ask for help from trusted friends and professionals and most importantly I will trust myself to know the path home. Namaste Wellness Warriors. I love you.
I share the same! Iām so thankful you are speaking this truth and valuing you!
